KOKOMO, Ind. – The Indiana University Kokomo volleyball team recorded their sixth straight victory Tuesday evening with a 3-0 sweep over conference foe, Saint Mary of the Woods College. With the sweep, the Cougars have not lost a set in 17 days.
The win improves the Cougars to 17-8 on the season and 9-1 in conference play.
IU Kokomo jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first set behind two Saint Mary of the Woods attack errors followed by two
Erinn Adam kills. The Pomeroys then rattled off three straight points to cut the lead to 4-3, before the Cougars answered with five consecutive points of their own to make it a 9-3 IU Kokomo lead. The rest of the set was a back-and-forth affair that ended with an
Audrey Strawsma kill to give IU Kokomo a 25-16 first set win.
The second set proved to be the most competitive set of the match. After taking a 2-0 lead to begin the second set, IU Kokomo trailed until a kill from Strawsma gave the Cougars a 16-15 advantage. After a Pomeroy kill knotted things up at 16, IU Kokomo took the lead for good on a kill by
Morgan Weir. The Cougars ended the second set on a 6-0 run that was capped off by a
Kaley Lyons kill, giving IU Kokomo the second set 25-18.
The third set featured total domination from the Cougars, who opened the final stanza by winning 11 straight points. The Pomeroys were held to a -.026 hitting percentage in the final set. IU Kokomo would go on to win the most lopsided set of the match, 25-13.
Erinn Adam led the Cougars on the night with 14 kills and four blocks.
Sidney Gerig contributed 10 kills and two blocks as well.
The Cougars will travel to Richmond on Friday to take on River States Conference opponent, IU East. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m.
