Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Harper's Late Game Heroics Lifts Men's Basketball Past Trojans

KOKOMO, Ind. – Allante Harper played hero on Tuesday night as the senior drilled two three-pointers in the final 14 seconds of the game to lift the Indiana University Kokomo men's basketball team to a 69-67 come-from-behind victory over Taylor University.

Trailing 64-63 with 33 seconds left to play in the game, the Cougars had the ball with a chance to tie or take the lead. Trequan Spivey drove the lane looking for the tie, but his shot was blocked, and the deflection was corralled by Julien Hunter. Harper got a second chance on the far wing and buried it to put IU Kokomo in front for the first time since the 8:00 mark in the first half.

After a Taylor timeout, the Trojans returned the favor, hitting a triple to go back in front, 67-66, Harper took the inbound, dribbled to the far wing and hoisted his sixth three of the game, and hitting nothing but net. The Trojans final heave came up empty, giving the Cougars their third win of the season.

The Cougras connected on their final five three point attempts of the game.

Things were slow for the Cougar offense for the first 55 minutes of the game. IU Kokomo trailed by as many as 14 in the first half. IU Kokomo trailed by 10 with less than five minutes to go in the opening frame but the Cougars went on a 7-0 run that included five points from Desean Hampton to cut the Trojan lead to three. Taylor would hit a three with 20 seconds left to take a six-point advantage into the locker room.

The Trojans shot 7-of-9 from long distance in the first half.

Taylor continued to control the tempo through most of the second half. The Trojans built a 13-point lead with 8:28 left to play in the game but Cougars showed no quit. A 14-2 run from the Cougars was capped off by the first of two big three-pointers from Harper.

As the final buzzer sounded, the IU Kokomo bench mobbed Harper; the hero of the night.

In the second half, the Cougars held the Trojans to just 1-of-7 shooting from beyond the arc.

Harper finished with 16 points but none more important than the last six. Spivey led the team with 17 points.

Hampton was a point and a rebound away from his fourth straight double-double as the senior finished with nine points and nine boards.

The Cougars will hit the road Friday for the first time this season as they travel to Wilberforce, Ohio to take on Wilberforce University.
