OAKLAND CITY, Ind. - The IU Kokomo volleyball team swept Oakland City on the road Tuesday evening for their fourth-straight win and fourth consecutive sweep. With the victory, the Cougars improved to 21-5 overall and 10-1 in River States Conference play.
The match was tied at five early in the opening set, but IU Kokomo won four points in a row to take a 9-5 lead. By the midway point of the first set, the Cougars led by six at 13-7. IU Kokomo took a 19-12 lead thanks to back-to-back
Audrey Strawsma kills, and would go on to win the first set 25-17.
Oakland City won the first three points of the second set, but would only manage to win four more points the remainder of the set. With the match tied at four, IU Kokomo went on a 10-0 run to take a 14-4 lead.
Leading 17-6, the Cougars won seven-straight points to extend their lead to 24-6. The Cougs took a 2-0 lead after winning the second set 25-7.
IU Kokomo led 3-2 early in the third set before the Mighty Oaks won five-straight points to take a 7-3 lead. The Cougars responded quickly, winning five of the next six points to tie the set at eight.
The Cougs built a six-point lead at 17-11 to force an Oakland City timeout. IUK went on to win the third set 25-15 and the match 3-0 over Oakland City.
Lorelei Porter had eight kills to lead the Cougs, and freshman
Lexi Broyles added seven.
Audrey Strawsma and
Allison Richman each had three total blocks to pace IUK.
Kaley Lyons had a match-high 16 assists, while Richman added nine.
Alyvia Smith and
Tori Wilkinson both had nine digs apiece to lead all players.
The Cougars willl be back in action this Friday, October 21st, as they will welcome University of Rio Grande to the Student Activities and Events Center. First serve is set for 7:00 P.M.
