KOKOMO, Ind. – The Indiana University Kokomo men's basketball team extended its season-best winning streak to 10 games tonight as they cruised past Brescia to move to 22-3 on the season and 12-1 in River States Conference play. The Cougars' 10-game winning streak began on December 21st with a win at Lincoln College.
Tonight's win was a special one for fifth year senior
Trequan Spivey as the Cougars' all-time leading scorer eclipsed a career milestone that not many players accomplish. The Indianapolis native surpassed the 2,000-career point mark in the first half. Spivey needed just five points to reach the goal and it took just three minutes as he knocked down a triple at the 17:19 mark of the first half. Spivey finished the game with 24 points on 8-of-9 shooting including a 5-of-6 clip from long range.
IU Kokomo controlled the first seven minutes of the game, building a 10-point lead when
Allante Harper drained a triple to make it 20-10 but an 8-0 run from the Bearcats made it a one possession game with just over 10 minutes to play in the opening half. Over the final 10 minutes of the half, the Cougars stepped on the gas, using a 24-6 run to take a 20-point advantage into the break.
The second half was more of the same from IU Kokomo as the Cougars never led by less than 17 points during the final 20 minutes. With 13:36 to play in the game,
Desean Hampton threw down a dunk to give IUK a 30-point lead, their largest of the game.
Hampton and
Hunter White each chipped in with 11 in the win.
Next up for the Cougars will be Alice Lloyd on Saturday in Pippa Passes. The Cougars and Eagles are battling for the top spot in the RSC. Tipoff is set for 1:00 p.m.
