Women’s Basketball Pulls Away from Brescia in Second Half Behind Career-High from Anna Kiser

KOKOMO, Ind. – The Indiana University Kokomo women's basketball team controlled second half play after a back-and-forth first half to beat Brescia University 70-53. IU Kokomo has now won four of their last five games and hold a 9-11 record and 6-7 River States Conference mark.

Anna Kiser got the scoring started with a bucket in the paint to give the Cougars a 2-1 lead early on in a competitive first half. Senior guard Sierra Peete picked up two early fouls and the Bearcats took advantage. Brescia went three for four from three-point land in the first quarter to hold a 21-17 lead after one.

IU Kokomo opened the second quarter with four straight points to pull even with Brescia at 21. Kashlin Biffle scored in the paint for the Cougs first lead of the quarter. After a Bearcat bucket knotted the score at 29, IUK answered with a 5-0 run to close out the final 2:01 of the first half and take a 34-29 lead.

After a closely contested first half of action, the Cougars asserted their dominance early and often in the second. A Shamaria Walker deuce extended the IUK lead to six before a nearly three-minute-long drought for both teams. The Cougs outscored Brescia 13-8 over the final 4:33 of the third quarter to take a 53-42 lead into the fourth quarter.

IU Kokomo controlled play in the fourth quarter, never letting the lead dip below 11 points on their way to a 70-53 win over the Brescia Bearcats.

Sophomore Anna Kiser led IUK with a career high 18 points and five boards. Peete contributed ten points for the Cougars and Vanessa Mullins played well, scoring ten points and bringing down a team-high seven boards.

The Cougars will have three days to prepare for their next test after Thursday's scheduled game with SMWC was postponed. IUK will travel to Pippas Passes, Kentucky Saturday for a matinee with Alice Lloyd. Tipoff is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
