Second Half Surge Leads Men's Basketball to 13th Straight Victory

MIDWAY, Ky. –Five players finished in double figures as the Indiana University Kokomo men's basketball defeated Midway University on Saturday afternoon for their 13th straight victory. A strong second half led IU Kokomo to a 76-53 victory over the Eagles, sweeping the season series. 
 
Trequan Spivey led all scorers with 18 points, 12 of them coming in the second half. Spivey was a perfect 8-of-8 from the charity stripe and connected on 2-of-3 attempts from beyond the arc. 
 
For the 11th time this season, Desean Hampton recorded a double-double as the fifth year senior finished with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Hampton was 5-of-11 from the field in the victory. 
 
Darian Porch and Hunter White each finished with 10 points and Chris Chin chipped in with 10, all coming in the second half. Tayson Parker was efficient, finishing 4-of-7 from the field for nine points. 
 
After falling behind 5-0 in the early goings, the Cougars scored six unanswered to take their first lead of the game. Spivey had four of IU Kokomo's first six points.
 
Trailing 15-14, IU Kokomo went on a 10- run to take a seven-point lead with 3:33 to go in the first half. Parker and White each had four points on the run and Julien Hunter had a bucket. 
 
A 9-0 run from the Eagles to close out the half would give Midway a slim two-point lead heading into the break. 
 
In the second half, the Cougars offense exploded for 52 points, shooting 63 percent from the field. 
 
After a Spivey steal, the fifth-year senior would knock down a triple to put IU Kokomo in front, 33-30. This basket would give the Cougars the lead for good. 
 
Midway through the half, Parker jumped into the passing lane for a steal and would convert the layup on the other end to give IU Kokomo its first double digit lead of the contest. 
 
The final 4:00 of the game became the Chris Chin show for the Cougars. Chin scored all 10 of his points during this span including a steal and layup that would give IUK its first 20 point advantage of the game. 
 
IU Kokomo will return to action on Tuesday for its final home game of the regular season. The Cougars will welcome the Grenadiers of IU Southeast to the Student Activities & Events Center. Tipoff is slated for 7:30 p.m.
