KOKOMO, Ind. - IU Kokomo volleyball extended their win-streak to five with a straight-set win over IU South Bend Tuesday night. The Cougars improved to 12-3 on the season with the win.

IU Kokomo won the first three points of the match to set an early tone. By the midway point of the first set, the Cougs had doubled the Titans up, leading 12-6. Holding a 13-8 lead, the Cougs went on a 6-0 run to take an 11 point lead at 19-8. IUK would win the first set 25-12.

The Cougs led by one at 5-4 in the second set, but would reel off four-straight points to build a 9-4 lead. The Titans would get within a point at 13-12, but from then on, IU Kokomo would outscore IU South Bend 12-5 to win the set and take a 2-0 lead.

IUK carried the momentum over to the third set, winning the opening five-points. IU South Bend managed to trim the lead over time, eventually getting within one at 13-12, just as they did in the second set. 

Head coach Heather Hayes took a timeout with IUK in front 14-13, and the Cougars responded. The Cougs won the follwing four-points to build a five-point lead and force an IU South Bend timeout. IUK would close out the set on a 7-3 run to complete the three-set sweep of IU South Bend.

Sidney Gerig and Tori Wilkinson led IUK in kills with seven apiece. Allison Richman paired six kills with 14 assists.

Kaley Lyons led the Cougs with 19 assists and Alyvia Smith led the team with 18 digs. Lorelei Porter had a match-high four aces.

The Cougars will be back-in-action later this week, as they will play road matches at RSC foe Midway University Friday night and future RSC member Shawnee State Saturday. First serve Friday is set for 7:00 P.M.
