KOKOMO, Ind. - The IU Kokomo men's basketball team fell to Point Park Saturday afternoon 89-77. With the loss, the Cougars are now 16-6 overall and 10-2 in River States Conference play.
IU Kokomo fell behind 4-2 early before an 8-0 run forced a Point Park timeout while trailing 10-4. A
Julien Hunter layup extended the lead to eight with 11:21 remaining in the first half. Point Park began to get stops defensively and managed to tie the game at 27 with 6:28 to go in the half.
Point Park took their first lead since the opening minutes of the game and held on to it until halftime, leading 41-37 at the break.
Pioneer guard Jalen Stamps came out of halftime with something to prove, scoring 26 second-half points to guide the Pioneers offensively. The two teams traded buckets for the first six minutes of the half, but Point Park eventually managed to gain some distance and take a ten-point lead.
Chris Chin knocked down a jumper to cut the deficit to four, but Stamps answered with a deep-ball to regain a seven-point lead. Point Park extended the lead back to double-digits with 3:11 remaining, and would not let the lead drop below nine in the final minutes. The Pioneers beat IU Kokomo 89-77.
Hunter White led IU Kokomo with 23 points, five rebounds, and four assists.
Xavier Hines added 14 points,
Julien Hunter contributed ten points, and
Darian Porch had nine points and six boards.
The Cougars will return to the hardwood Tuesday evening with a road game at IU East. Tip-off is set for 7:30 P.M.
