KOKOMO, Ind. - The Cougar men's basketball team dispatched Ohio Christian 102-74 Wednesday in an RSC Quarterfinal matchup, advancing to Saturday's semifinal round.
IU Kokomo struggled offensively early in the game, and Ohio Christian knocked down threes on consecutive possessions to take an early 6-0 lead. After a second Jimmy Salamone three-pointer made it 11-7 Trailblazers, head coach
Eric Echelbarger took a 30-second timeout to settle his squad.
The Cougars went on an 8-0 run out of the timeout to take their first lead of the game at 15-11. Leading 25-21, IU Kokomo utilized a 10-0 run fueled by seven
Ty Wills points to extend the lead to double-digits. The Cougars took a 47-30 lead into halftime.
IU Kokomo led 51-35 early in the second-half before eight-straight IUK points gave the Cougars a 24-point lead. IU Kokomo dominated the second-half, essentially closing the game on cruise control, as the Trailblazers only managed to get within 18. IU Kokomo beat Ohio Christian 102-74 to advance to Saturday's semifinals.
Freshman
Ty Wills led IUK in scoring, dropping 23 points, including 19 in the first-half.
Hunter White had another impressive all-around game, scoring 16 points while dishing seven assists and grabbing six rebounds.
Darian Porch added 12 points,
Noah Harris had 11, and
Julien Hunter scored ten.
The Cougars will host Point Park Saturday in the RSC Semifinals. Point Park survived a scare from Midway tonight, beating the Eagles 78-76. Tip-off is set for 3:00 P.M.
