Baseball Falls in Game Three of Series at Midway

MIDWAY, Ky. - The IU Kokomo baseball team returned to Midway on Monday for the final game of a three-game series, falling 14-4 in seven innings. Through 30 games, the Cougars are 16-14 overall and 7-7 in River States Conference play.

Offensively 
  • The Cougars got things started on the right foot, scoring three runs on two hits in the top of the first for an early 3-0 lead. Riley Garczynski and Tucker Platt would each walk and come in to score. Garczynski scored on a Jack Leverenz double to left, and both Platt and Leverenz would score on a Luke Barnes single to center.
  • Midway answered IUK immediately, scoring three runs on two hits in the bottom of the inning to even the game at 3-3. 
  • The Eagles would blow the game open with a five-run third inning for an 8-3 lead. Midway scored the runs on three hits and one IUK error.
  • IU Kokomo got one back in the fourth, scoring their final run of the game on a hit and an Eagle error. Leverenz doubled once again and would score on an E6 off the bat of Dylan Janke.
  • Midway scored four in the sixth and two in the seventh to earn the 14-4 run-rule victory over IU Kokomo.

Pitching
  • Mason Whiteley got the start for IU Kokomo, taking the loss after two innings of work. Whiteley allowed five earned runs on four hits and four free-passes while striking out three.
  • Ethan Leslie relieved Whiteley in the third and would toss one inning. Leslie allowed three runs (one earned) on one hit and a pair of walks while striking out a man.
  • Garrison Brege was the next Cougar out of the pen, tossing 2.2 innings and allowing four earned runs on four hits and two base on balls.
  • Brandon Bultemeier and Owen Harvey eached tossed 0.2 innings. Bultemeier allowed no runs on no hits and no walks while striking out a man and Harvey surrendered two runs (one earned) on a hit and two walks while striking out one hitter.

The Cougars will stay in Kentucky to take on (RV) Georgetown in a single nine-inning game. First-pitch is set for 4:00 PM.
