PORTSMOUTH, Ohio. - The IU Kokomo men's basketball team struggled on the road Thursday night at Shawnee State, falling by a final score of 75-58. With the loss, the Cougars fall to 14-5 overall an 4-5 in River States Conference play.
The Cougars took an early 1-0 lead via a bucket from
Max Newman, but that proved to be IU Kokomo's only lead of the night. Shawnee State immediately answered that deuce with a 9-0 run, taking a 9-2 lead.Â
IU Kokomo managed to pull back within a point on several occasions in the first half, but the Bears took a 38-29 lead into the locker room at halftime.
The Bears quickly extended their lead to 15 early in the second half, but the Cougars fought hard to trim the deficit to eight with 15 minutes to play.Â
Shawnee State regained and maintained a double-digit lead for the remainder of the contest, closing out a 75-58 win over IU Kokomo.
Senior guard
Chris Chin led the Cougars offensively on the night, scoring 13 points while pulling down eight rebounds. Three other Cougars scored in double-figures, including
Julien Hunter with 12,
Joseph Annan Jr. with 11, and
Dell DeMyers with 10.
The Cougars will head further east to Pittsburgh where they will battle the 21st ranked Pioneers of Point Park. Tip-off is set for 3:00 PM.
