OAKLAND CITY, Ind. – The IUK men's basketball team defeated the Oakland City Mighty Oaks on Tuesday night, prevailing 67-63. With the victory, the Cougars rise to 21-6 this season with an 11-6 mark in conference games.
Dell Demyers set the tone early, scoring the first bucket of the game with a three-pointer. Oakland City tied the score, before
Hunter Jackson answered with his own triple, which kicked off a 16-0 scoring run as the Cougars took a 19-3 lead ten minutes into the game.
The Oaks put together their own scoring run to trail by just six, but three straight free throws by
Joseph Annan Jr. put the Cougars lead back up to nine. Oakland City then fought back to trail just 24-22 with five minutes remaining in the half.
Proficient offense and strong defense in the final moments of the period gave the Cougars a 35-26 lead at halftime.

Joseph Annan Jr. free throws, and a three-point shot by
Dell DeMyers lifted the Cougars to a 42-28 lead.
The Oaks found some offense throughout the second half, trailing by as few as seven, but the Cougars continued to keep their opponents in check, quickly shutting down any comeback attempts. IUK ultimately held on, 67-63.
Max Newman was dominant yet again, scoring 20 points and grabbing 19 rebounds for another tally in the double-double category.
Joseph Annan Jr. scored 16 points to go along with nine rebounds while
Dell DeMyers added 11 points.
The Cougars have just one game remaining on their regular season schedule, an away game against Brescia University this Saturday, before turning their attention to the River States Conference tournament.
