OWENSBORO, Ky. - The Indiana University Kokomo women's basketball team had their season come to an end Saturday, as they fell 71-65 at Brescia to come up just shy of a River States Conference tournament appearance.
The Bearcats, searching for their first conference win of the season, took an early lead. IU Kokomo took their first lead of the game at 5-4 via a
Kelsi Langley triple.
Trailing 11-9, Brescia utilized a 9-0 run to take an 18-11 lead. They would take a six-point lead into the second quarter.
The Cougars did well to chip away at the deficit, eventually re-taking the lead at 33-31 with five minutes to play in the first half. IUK held on to the lead for the remainder of the half, leading 41-37 at the half.
Brescia came out of the locker room strong, scoring nine-straight points for a five-point, 46-41 lead. The Bearcats would outscore IU Kokomo 13-3 in the third quarter to take a 50-44 lead into final 10 minutes.
Desperate for a first conference win, Brescia extended their lead to 11 in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter, and maintained control throughout for a 71-65 win over the Cougars of IU Kokomo.
With the loss, IUK's 2023-2024 season ends with an overall record of 8-18, along with an RSC mark of 5-13.
Kelsi Langley led IU Kokomo offensively with 22 points, serving as the Cougars lone double-digit scorer.
Kristen Ridner scored nine, while
Anna Kiser added seven. Both
Alaya Chapman and
Cameryn Rector contributed six points.
