DALTON, Ga. - The Indiana University Kokomo women's soccer team was on the unlucky side of mother nature Saturday afternoon in the Peach State. With the Cougars carrying a lead into the 67th minute, officials were forced to pause the action due to lightning within range as part of an incoming storm.
Saturday's non-conference match between IU Kokomo and Dalton State was eventually deemed a no contest, with no intentions on making the match up. No stats from Saturday's match or a final result will be counted as a result of the no contest.
The Cougars were in the midst of what seemed to be a fairly strong bounce-back performance after a tough season opening loss Thursday at #14 SCAD Savannah. An early goal in the 12th minute from senior
Mackenzie Gibbons (assisted by
Kaiya Bogers) gave IU Kokomo a lead they would not relinquish for the entirety of the 67 minutes played Saturday afternoon.
Junior goalkeeper
Kailee Moore was in the midst of a shutout in goal for the Cougars, having recorded seven saves prior to the match being stopped.Â
IU Kokomo will be back in action Wednesday evening as they will make the 60 mile trip south to Indianapolis to take on the 19th ranked Knights of Marian University.
