KOKOMO, Ind. - The Indiana University Kokomo women's tennis team began their 2024-2025 season Wednesday, welcoming the Cougars of Spring Arbor University to town for a non-conference matchup. Spring Arbor would best IU Kokomo 7-0 to drop the Cougs to 0-1 on the year.
After the Spring Arbor #1 doubles pair won 6-1, the IU Kokomo #2 doubles pairing of
Chloe Schmidt and
Mia Federspill answered with a 6-2 win to make #3 doubles the deciding match for the doubles point.
Shortly after the #2 doubles point ended, the Cougars of SAU won at #3 doubles 6-1 to clinch the doubles point and take a 1-0 lead into singles play.
Spring Arbor won handily at #2, #4 and #5 singles, clinching the match by taking a 4-0 lead.
Freshman
Graciella Solis got the nod at #3 singles for IU Kokomo, where she impressed but fell 6-3, 6-1.
Junior
Breanna Koester played well but dropped her match at #6 singles 6-4, 6-1.
Ava Allen was last off the court for the Cougars at #1 singles, as she was locked in a competitive battle with Spring Arbor's Victoria Herrington. Herrington would outlast Allen to win 6-2, 6-1 despite ultra-competitive play throughout.Â

The Cougars will next be in action on Friday, September 13th, as they will travel to Valporaiso to play the Crusaders at 10:00 AM before returning to Kokomo to take on the Pilots of Bethel (Ind.) at 5:30 PM.
