ALLENDALE, Mich. - The IU Kokomo women's indoor track and field team, led by
Sydney Duncan and
Leslie Sprankles, competed as a full roster Saturday at Grand Valley State's Bob Eubanks Open for the first time this season.
Sydney Duncan continued her strong start to her sophomore season in the first meet of 2025, tossing another NAIA "A" standard in Shot Put (Invite Only) while winning the Weight Throw. Already leading the NAIA in Shot Put this year, Duncan tossed a mark of 15.64 meters that is also better than every other NAIA female student-athlete.
Having already punched her ticket to NAIA Indoor Nationals in the Shot Put, Sydney has turned some attention to the Weight Throw with the hopes of meeting a standard. She won the Weight Throw by more than a meter, but came up short of a qualifying standard by just 0.14 meters. Sydney is ranked #1 in the RSC in the Weight Throw as well.
Junior distance runner
Leslie Sprankles turned in a strong performance in the 600 meters Saturday, finishing 6th of 15 runners with a school record time of 1:42.65. That time is good for the #1 spot in the River States Conference by seven seconds at this point in time.
Senior
Hannah Wells finished 29th of 63 in the mile, crossing the line in a time of 5:21.73, good for second best in program history.
Jaydi Jones ran the fourth-fastest 60 meter dash time in school history Saturday, finishing with a time of 8.44.
Keeley Carpenter finished 26th in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:39.53, making her the fourth-fastest in program history. Teammate
Leah Highley is now the fourth-fastest in the 400 meter dash, as she finished with a time of 1:05.77.
Junior thrower
Olivia Newcom finished 15th in the Open Shot Put with a mark of 10.50 meters, while
Isabelle Altic finished 28th in the 3000 meter run with a time of 11:40.42. Both marks are good for sixth all-time in program history.
