Men's Basketball Tops Taylor in Home Opener

KOKOMO, In. -  The Indiana University Kokomo men's basketball team earned a thrilling 93-85 victory over Taylor University on Wednesday evening, picking up a win in their home opener at the Student Activities & Events Center.

THE RUNDOWN 
  • Both teams battled back and forth early, with the score tied at 36-36 with 3:38 remaining in the first half. 
  • The Cougars then went on a pivotal 9-0 run, highlighted by a thunderous dunk from freshman Alonzo Clawson-Smith, to take a 45-36 lead.
  • Taylor trimmed the deficit to seven heading into halftime.
  • IU Kokomo came out firing in the second half, stretching its lead to 13 (64-51) behind the hot hand of Ty Willis.
  • The Trojans fought back late, cutting the lead to just one with 3:17 left to play, but the Cougars stayed composed down the stretch and secured a hard-fought 93-85 victory in their home debut.

LEADING THE CHARGE
  • Junior Ty Wills would lead the way for the Cougars in scoring, finishing with 29 points and tallying 2 steals. 
  • Freshman Alonzo Clawson-Smith stuffed the stat sheet, finishing with 22 points, 7 assists, 5 rebounds, and 5 steals.
  • Evan Kretz added 12 points and 4 rebounds, while Patric Matson chipped in 9 points.
  • Kedric Anderson contributed 7 points and 2 blocks in the win.
