Cougars Double Up Crimson Pride in Record-Breaking Road Win

COLUMBUS, Ind. - The IU Kokomo Men's Basketball team earned their sixth-straight win in emphatic fashion Tuesday evening, thrashing IU Columbus 125-60 in what was a record-breaking road win.

The win improves the Cougars to 19-8 overall and 10-5 in conference play ahead of Saturday's season-finale at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods. The Pomeroys of SMWC have clinched the first River States Conference Men's Basketball automatic bid with the best conference record.

Tuesday's 65-point road win is the largest margin of victory in the program's 14 year history, as seventh year Head Coach Eric Echelbarger's Cougars poured in 125 points, the most against an NAIA opponent in program history. Back on January 10th, 2020, IU Kokomo scored 127 points against Miami-Hamilton of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association in a 41-point home win.

Saving arguably the most impressive accomplishment for last, all IUK student-athletes who saw action in the game, scored in double-figures. This feat had yet to be accomplished since the program's birth inaugural season of 2011-2012.

IU Kokomo jumped all over the Crimson Pride on their home court, scoring the first 12 points of the game to set the tone. By the 10:20 mark of the first half, the Cougar lead had already been extended to 20 at 25-5.

Joseph Annan Jr. knocked down a pair of free throws with 1:47 to play in the first half, making it a 47-17 IU Kokomo lead. The Cougars led 52-23 through 20 minutes.

IUK began the second half strong, scoring 20 of the first 24 points to lead by 45 at 72-27. The Cougar lead never dipped below 39 throughout the rest of the game, as the Cougars left town with a 125-60 victory.

All seven Cougars who saw action in the win scored in double-figures, with four pouring in 20 or more points. Max Newman was a force to be reckoned with Tuesday, recording 27 points, 13 rebounds, and seven assists, all game-highs.

Chris Chin finished with 23 points and seven rebounds, each being season-highs. Noah Harris went 4/4 from beyond-the-arc en-route to a 22 point, six rebound, five assist performance. Dell DeMyers made it two-straight games with 4+ triples, as he totaled 20 points, five assists, and a game-high five steals.

Joseph Annan Jr. tallied 12 points and six rebounds, while both Kedric Anderson and Drake Moore stuffed the stat-sheet. Anderson finished with 11 points, six assists, and four rebounds, as Moore chipped in 10 points, six assists, and five boards.

Tip-off Saturday is set for 12:00 PM ET inside the Jeanne Knoerle Center on the campus of SMWC.
