Men's Track and Field Finishes Fourth at 2025 RSC Championships

RIO GRANDE, Ohio. - The IU Kokomo Men's Outdoor Track & Field team brought home a fourth-place finish at this weekend's RSC Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by the University of Rio Grande in Ohio.

The Cougars totaled 112 points to finish fourth, 11 points back of both IU East and Shawnee State who finished in a tie for second. Rio Grande took home the Team Championship in dominating fashion, finishing with a whopping 286 points.

Junior thrower Gabe Wedmore proved to be the lone event winner on the men's side for IU Kokomo on the weekend, earning the individual championship in Hammer Throw with a mark of 52.94 meters, edging out Rio Grande's Rowan Gerlach by 0.01 meters for the title. Evan Gaylor followed Wedmore and Gerlach in third with a throw of 52.42 meters.

Freshman Mavrick Griffin finished second in Javelin in his first outdoor conference meet, delivering a throw of 42.65 meters. A pair of Cougar throwers finished inside the Top-Five in Discus, as Seth Ireland finished third with a mark of 45.19 meters while Rhett Berryman finished fifth with a toss of 42.76 meters.

Ireland and his younger brother Isaac finished 4th and 5th respectively in Shot Put, turning in throws of 14.84 meters and 14.53 meters.

Upperclassman Tanner Gibson enjoyed a strong performance in the Long Jump, as he finished second with a jump of 6.55 meters. Gibson also finished just outside the Top-Five in the 100 Meter Dash, crossing the line sixth in a time of 11.13 seconds.

A trio of IU Kokomo relay teams found success at Rio Grande over the weekend, as both the 4x100 and 4x400 meter relay teams brought home second-place finishes, with the 4x800 meter relay squad finishing fourth.

In the 5,000 Meter Racewalk, both Bryce Salgat and Cale Webb finished inside the Top-Five. Salgat finished fourth in a time of 27:25.14, while Webb finished fifth with a time of 27:45.61.

The Cougars will return to action at IU for the Billy Hayes Invitational Friday, May 9th, giving the student-athletes one more chance to qualify for the 2025 NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships held May 21-23 at nearby Indiana Wesleyan University.
