Cougars Suffer 81-72 Setback Wednesday at IU Southeast

NEW ALBANY, Ind. - The IU Kokomo women's basketball team traveled to IU Southeast Wednesday for a game delayed 24 hours due to inclement weather. Despite a strong first half, the Cougars fell to the Grenadiers, 81–72.

THE RUNDOWN 
  • IU Kokomo opened the game with the first five points and held a lead throughout the first quarter, heading into the second with a 16–15 advantage over the host Grenadiers.
  • The Grenadiers claimed their first lead of the night early in the second quarter, outscoring the Cougars 19–17 over the period, as the teams went into halftime separated by just one point.
  • The third quarter was a back-and-forth battle early on, but the Grenadiers pulled away late, finishing the period on a 9–0 run to take a 54–46 lead heading into the fourth.
  • IU Southeast pushed the lead to as many as 14 in the fourth quarter, but the Cougars refused to go quietly, cutting the margin later in the period. The Grenadiers, however, held on to secure an 81–72 victory over IU Kokomo.

LEADING THE CHARGE
  • Eight different Cougars found the scoreboard, with four reaching double figures. Mackenzie York led the way with her first career double-double, posting a team-high 17 points along with a career-best 10 rebounds.
  • Cameryn Rector contributed 14 points, while Anya Friend added 12 points, knocking down a season-high four three-pointers.
  • Hannah Hodgen rounded out the double-figure scorers with 10 points, adding four rebounds.
