Women's Basketball Loses Hard Fought Game Against Midway (Ky.)

KOKOMO, Ind. - The IU Kokomo women's basketball team went toe-to-toe with a strong Midway team in a close battle, ultimately dropping a hard-fought 65–56 decision.

THE RUNDOWN
  • Midway jumped out to a hot start, beginning the game on a 12-0 run over the first seven minutes of the first quarter. IU Kokomo got their first points via a layup from Moriah Crawford at the 3:03 mark in the quarter, and cut the deficit to just six by the end of the quarter. 
  • In the second quarter IU Kokomo continued to cut into the Midway lead, tying the game at 17 by the 6:00 mark in the quarter and taking their first lead on the following possession. The Cougars took control the rest of the quarter, extending their lead to as many as eight before taking a 28-22 lead into the locker room at the half. 
  • The Cougars continued to pour on the points as the second half began, extending their halftime lead to as many as eleven at the 6:36 mark. From there, Midway began to battle back, tying the game at 41 apiece by the 1:50 mark before leading by four at the end of the quarter. 
  • As the fourth quarter progressed, IU Kokomo fought to get the lead back, getting as close as three points on multiple occasions. Midway always had a timely bucket however, and were able to ice the game at the line and secure a 65-56 victory. 

LEADING THE CHARGE
  • The Cougars had three players in double figures during Saturday's contest. They were led by senior Mia Catey who had 14 points and a career-high 16 rebounds. 
  • Moriah Crawford also had 14 points in the contest while adding seven rebounds of her own, five of which came on the offensive end. 
  • Mackenzie York was the third double figure scorer for the Cougars, with ten points as well as nine rebounds.
