EAST CHICAGO, Ind. — IU Kokomo faced a tough challenge against IU Northwest on Tuesday, ultimately falling 1-0. Despite the defeat, the Cougars showed resilience, especially during a late stretch from 82:37 to 88:39, where they defended six Redhawks attacking actions without conceding.
First Half
- Liz Godfrey kept the Cougars level during an early IU Northwest push, saving a pair of shots early before the Redhawks added three more attempts through the 15th minute.
- IUK created chances in response, with Madison Balf and Charity Lewis forcing the action, but IU Northwest went ahead 1-0 on Mari Williams' goal at 18:35.
- The Cougs looked for an equalizer with shots from Avery Wilson and Kaiya Money in the 24th minute, then added late corner kicks from Anna Burns at 41:57 and 42:50.
- The Redhawks carried the 1-0 lead into halftime.
Second Half
- IU Northwest pressed early with seven shots from 49:34 to 59:39, but Godfrey made two saves.
- The Cougars pushed forward in the middle stages, getting a wide shot from Kaitlyn Swartzendruber at 63:55 before Money had two shots saved and Gia Tumber had another saved during a stretch that also included two corner kicks.
- The Redhawks created another late run of chances from 82:37 to 88:39, as IU Kokomo kept IU Northwest from adding on but were unable to net the equalizer in the final minutes.
