KINGSPORT, Tenn. – The IU Kokomo men's basketball team fell to Shawnee State University Sunday afternoon 71-48. With the loss in the final game of "The Show," the Cougars are now 5-3 as they return to River States Conference play this week.
Darian Porch gave IU Kokomo an early 2-0 lead 90 seconds into the game in a first half that both teams struggled to score in. By the midway point of the first half, there were just 19 points between the two teams, as Shawnee State led 11-8.
The Bears extended their lead to ten at 19-9 to force an IUK timeout with 6:49 remaining in the first half. Shawnee State led 24-15 at halftime.
IU Kokomo's struggles offensively continued early in the second-half as the Cougs were held to 11 points in the opening ten minutes of the half. After trailing by as many as 31, the Cougars got within 20, but fell to Shawnee State 71-48.
In the first start of his collegiate career, freshman Ty Wills led all-scorers with 15 points.
Darian Porch had 13 points for the Cougars on 4/5 shooting from the field, including 3/4 from beyond the arc.
The Cougars will return to action Tuesday, November 29, as they travel to Kentucky to take on Midway in their second RSC game of the season. Tip-off is set for 7:30 P.M.
