KOKOMO, Ind. - The IU Kokomo men's basketball team dominated Oakland City Tuesday night for a 100-62 win and head coach
Eric Echelbarger's 100th win at IU Kokomo. The win improves the Cougars to 8-3 overall, and 4-0 in River States Conference play.
The Cougars were led by by a trio consisting of
Hunter White,
Ty Wills, and
Julien Hunter. White led all-scorers with 25 points, and was one rebound shy of a double-double. Wills had 18 points, while
Julien Hunter had a double-double of 17 points and 11 rebounds.
Tuesday's matchup between the Mighty Oaks and Cougars was high-scoring and closely-contested early on, but IU Kokomo found another gear in the final 20 minutes. Two free-throws from
Ty Wills gave IUK a 22-15 lead with 12:17 to go in the first half, a lead the Cougars would maintain.
Leading 28-22, IU Kokomo went on a 13-0 run to extend the lead to 19 at 41-22. The Cougars took a 46-33 lead into halftime.
IU Kokomo continued their strong play out of halftime, scoring the first nine-points of the second-half to extend their lead to 22 at 55-33. The Mighty Oaks trimmed the lead to 14 with 10:34 remaining in the game, but the Cougars outscored Oakland City 37-13 in the final ten minutes to win 100-62.
Head coach
Eric Echelbarger picked up his 100th win at the helm of the program Tuesday night, and has an 80.6 winning percentage in his time at IU Kokomo. The Cougars have made three Sweet 16 appearances ('19, '20, '22) under Echelbarger's direction.
The Cougars will return to action Saturday afternoon as they travel to Owensboro, Kentucky to take on the Brescia Bearcats. Tip-off is set for 3:00 P.M.
