KOKOMO, Ind. - The IU Kokomo men's basketball team defeated the Saint Mary-of-the-Woods Pomeroys 74-60 on Saturday, lifting them to 18-6 on the season and 12-2 in conference play.
After an early 11-4 lead for Saint Mary's, a pair of three-pointers from
Hunter Jackson and
Hunter White and a handful of layups from
Zach Rinehart boosted IU Kokomo to a 16-15 lead with six minutes remaining in the half.
In the final moments of the half,
Xavier Hines scored a layup immediately followed by a triple, and
Hunter Jackson sunk another three-pointer to set up a 29-28 lead at halftime.
To start the second half, a three-pointer from
Darian Porch and four straight free throws from
Noah Harris made up a 7-0 run for IUK, putting them ahead 36-28. The Pomeroys stormed back to trail by just 1, but another scoring run of 8-0 put the Cougars ahead 49-41.
Late fouls proved costly for Saint Mary's, as the Cougars sunk 8 free throws in the final six minutes of the game. That paired with a late three-pointer from
Hunter White sealed a 74-60 victory for the Cougars.
Zach Rinehart and
Hunter White led the way for the Cougars, each scoring 16 points.
Xavier Hines also scored 15 points.
The Cougars return home on Tuesday against Midway University, before heading to IU Southeast for an away game on Saturday.
