Cougars Clinch Fifth-Straight 20 Win Season with 75-65 Victory on Senior Day

KOKOMO, Ind. - On the day in which three IU Kokomo Men's basketball seniors were recognized prior to the game as part of Senior Day festivities, the Cougars clinched a fifth-straight 20 win season with a 75-65 win over IU Southeast.

The Cougars and Grenadiers had already met once this season in New Albany, with the Grenadiers having won 74-65. Led by the following three seniors, Hunter Jackson, Dell DeMyers, and Julien Hunter, the Cougs came into Saturday looking to avenge the early season loss.

As usual, seniors Hunter Jackson and Dell DeMyers got the start while Julien Hunter was unavailable due to injury. DeMyers had 16 first-half points on 4-7 shooting from deep, despite dealing with foul-trouble.

The Cougars scored the first 13 points of the game, jumping out to a commanding 13-0 lead less than four minutes in. A Jocobi Hendricks triple cut the Grenadier deficit to six, but IU Kokomo managed to rebuild the lead to 15 at 27-12.

IU Kokomo's lead did not dip below double-digits until the final 92 seconds of the half, as an IU Southeast bucket made it a 39-31 IU Kokomo lead through 20 minutes.

Dell DeMyers opened the second half with yet another triple, however IU Southeast then scored nine-straight to trim the IUK lead to two at 42-40. The Grenadiers managed to take a lead of their own on a couple occasions, but the Cougars had a response each time.

With 7:05 remaining in the game, IU Kokomo led by eight, and by the three minute mark the lead had been extended to 11. The Cougars held off the Grenadiers down the stretch for a 75-65 win on Senior Day.

Four Cougars scored in double-figures in the victory, led by 21 from Dell DeMyers. Joseph Annan Jr. had 19 points and seven rebounds while Max Newman continued his double-double terror with an 18 point, 17 rebound performance. Hunter Jackson added 11 points.
