MARION, Ind. - The IU Kokomo women's outdoor track and field team competed Friday and Saturday at the 119th annual Indiana Little State Championships, hosted by Indiana Wesleyan.
Senior thrower
Emma Byrum provided the highlight of the weekend, hitting the NAIA "A" Standard in Javelin with a first place toss of 41.83 meters, qualifying her for the upcoming NAIA Outdoor Nationals. The throw ranks her sixth in the nation, and was 7.65 meters clear of second place.
Fellow thrower
Sydney Duncan extended her NAIA "A" Standard mark in the Shot Put with a second place toss of 14.42m, and is currently ranked 6
th in the nation. She also placed 14
th in the Javelin, 6
th in the Discus, and 6
th in the Hammer Throw.
Taylor Roesler set a school record in the Pole Vault, reaching 2.95m while tying for eighth place in the event.
Hannah Wells placed second in the 3k Steeplechase and set a new school record with a time of 11:43.21.
The 4x800 Meter Relay team of
Leslie Sprankles,
Rachel Eby,
Isabelle Altic, and
Hannah Wells placed seventh.
The women's team totaled 34.5 points and finished 10
th place as a team. This is the highest point total and placing at this meet in team history. Â
The Cougars will be back in action next weekend for the River States Conference Outdoor Championships, hosted by Point Park University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
