PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The IU Kokomo women's outdoor track and field team earned their highest ever finish at the River States Conference Outdoor Championships this week, finishing second of twelve teams with a program best 122 points.
Junior runner
Hannah Wells added to the list of NAIA Outdoor Nationals qualifiers this week, winning the 3k Steeplechase with an NAIA "A" standard time of 11:13.65. That time not only is a new school record, but it also ranks her 13th in the nation. Hannah also finished third in the 5k to earn All-RSC honors.
Freshman phenom
Sydney Duncan continued her dominance in just her second RSC meet of her young career, as she was named both RSC Outdoor Track and Field Newcomer of the Year and RSC Outdoor Track and Field Field Athlete of the Year.
Duncan finished first in three separate field events, including Discus, Hammer Throw, and Shot Put. Her mark of 13.28 meters in the Shot Put set a new River States Conference record. IU Kokomo would sweep the medals in Shot Put, finishing 1-2-3.
Fresh off of clinching her berth to Outdoor Nationals in the Javelin Throw,
Emma Byrum won the event with a new River States Conference record mark of 41.54 meters. Byrum also finished second in Shot Put to earn All-RSC honors.Â
Sophomore thrower
Faith Rock collected All-RSC honors in both Discus and Shot Put, as she finished second in Discus and third in Shot Put.
Maddie Dotlich finished third in the 5k Racewalk with a time of 30:24.29, earning her All-RSC recognition.
Sophomore
Maleah Winger was named IU Kokomo's representative on the River States Conference Champions of Character team.
