KOKOMO, Ind. - The IU Kokomo women's basketball team came up just short in their River States Conference opener Wednesday night, dropping a 74–72 battle to IU Southeast despite a strong late-game surge.

THE RUNDOWN
- IU Southeast limited IU Kokomo to just 23% shooting in the opening quarter, taking a 14–8 lead after the first ten minutes.
- The second quarter saw both offenses pick up, as the Cougars and Grenadiers traded baskets and each put up 19 points. IU Southeast took a six-point lead into the halftime break.
- The Grenadiers matched their second-quarter output with another 19-point frame in the third, while holding IU Kokomo to 12. That stretch allowed IU Southeast to take a 13-point lead into the fourth quarter.
- IU Kokomo and IU Southeast combined for 55 points in a high-octane fourth quarter, with much of the action in transition as the Cougars pushed the pace in search of a comeback.
- IU Southeast stretched their lead to 16 early in the fourth quarter with a three-pointer, but just past the five-minute mark, IU Kokomo cut it to eight, returning to single digits. The Grenadiers quickly pushed the lead back to 13 and still held a 12-point advantage with just 45 seconds remaining.
- Lisa Pflueger's IU Kokomo team erupted for eight points in just 16 seconds, cutting a 12-point deficit to four with 29 seconds left. IU Southeast made 1 of 2 free throws to go up by five, but Anya Friend's third three-pointer brought the Cougars within two with 10 seconds remaining. Hannah Hodgen then forced a turnover with one second on the clock, but her final shot came up short, and IU Southeast held off IU Kokomo's furious rally for a 74–72 victory.
LEADING THE CHARGE
- Senior forward Mia Catey powered the IU Kokomo offense, posting a game-high 20 points to go along with a team-best seven rebounds and four steals.
- Fellow upperclassman Hannah Hodgen followed Catey's lead with 16 points while adding four assists, three rebounds, and a pair of steals.
- Anya Friend delivered one of her strongest outings of the season on Wednesday night, knocking down three triples and pulling in six rebounds.
- Both Cameryn Rector and Millie Scorsone provided a spark off the bench, each contributing seven points.
