Second-Half Comeback Attempts Not Enough in Loss at Goshen (Ind.)

GOSHEN, Ind. - The IU Kokomo women's basketball team played their final game ahead of an 11-day stretch with no games for a short Christmas break, showcasing their resiliency in the second half despite losing 76-67.

THE RUNDOWN 
  • IU Kokomo got off to a slow start offensively on the road Thursday, falling behind 10-0 before Kelsi Langley scored the Cougars' first basket with 3:57 left in the opening quarter. Goshen led 14-6 after the first 10 minutes.
  • The Maple Leafs outscored IU Kokomo 22-16 in the second quarter, taking a 14-point lead into halftime after an IU Kokomo three-pointer in the middle of the quarter was ruled late following a shot-clock review.
  • A key part of IU Kokomo's second-half comeback attempts came from points off turnovers, with the Cougars scoring 16 points off turnovers to Goshen's four.
  • Trailing 40-25 after an extended replay review early in the second half, IU Kokomo went on an 11-0 run over the next three and a half minutes to cut the deficit to four. Goshen rebuilt a double-digit lead by the two-minute mark, taking a 54-42 advantage into the fourth quarter.
  • After trailing by as many as 16 early in the fourth quarter, the Cougars gradually chipped away at the deficit, pulling within five with 1:56 remaining. That would be as close as IU Kokomo got, as Goshen closed out a 76-67 victory in both teams' final game until December 30.

LEADING THE CHARGE
  • A pair of upperclassmen, Cameryn Rector and Mia Catey, led IU Kokomo by converting seven field goals apiece. Rector finished with a team-high 20 points to go along with five steals, four assists, and four rebounds, while Catey added 15 points and five rebounds.
  • Anya Friend knocked down a pair of triples on her way to eight points on 3-of-6 shooting, while Lexi DiOrio added a key seven points.
