OAKLAND CITY, Ind. & OWENSBORO, Ky. - The IU Kokomo Women's Tennis team hit the road late last week for a two-match road-trip at (RV) Oakland City Friday and at Brescia Saturday, falling 7-0 to the Mighty Oaks before bouncing back for a 6-1 win over the Bearcats.
Match One: 7-0 Loss at (RV) Oakland City
- The Cougars had their hands full in their second River States Conference match of the season, battling an Oakland City squad that was receiving votes in the most recent edition of the NAIA Women's Tennis Coaches' Top 25 Rating.
- The Mighty Oaks took care of business at each of the three doubles points, taking a 1-0 lead into singles play.
- Graciella Solis was a major bright spot for IU Kokomo in singles action, taking her match at #6 singles to three sets before dropping the super-tiebreak 10-4.
- Reiley Hiser battled well at #2 singles, eventually falling 3-6, 2-6 to a solid opponent.
- Oakland City cruised to victory at each of the other four singles spots, yet not one Cougar went down 6-0, 6-0. as the Mighty Oaks closed out a shut-out victory.
Match Two: 6-1 Win at Brescia
- Looking to bounce back and earn their second River States Conference win of the spring, Head Coach Kristine Miller's squad came to play Saturday in Owensboro.
- After the #3 doubles duo of Breanna Koester/Graciella Solis blanked their opponents 6-0, IU Kokomo's #1 doubles pairing of Reiley Hiser/Ava Allen and the #2 doubles combo of Sophia Davidson/Chloe Schmidt both pulled out narrow wins to complete the doubles sweep and give the Cougars a 1-0 lead.
- Three different Cougars brought home double-bagel victories in singles play, including Kennedy Perrin (#4 singles), Mia Federspill (#5 singles), and Graciella Solis (#6 singles). These three wins clinched a match victory for the Cougars, considering they led 4-0.
- Reiley Hiser and Chloe Schmidt each won handily at #2 and #3 singles for IUK, dropping just four total games between the two of them.
- Brescia's lone point of the match came at #1 singles, as IU Kokomo rolled to a 6-1 road win over the Bearcats.
IU Kokomo will return to action Tuesday at home, as they will host IU East for a 12:00 PM first-serve inside the Howard County Indoor Tennis Center.
