Cougar Volleyball Sweeps Oakland City and Bryan to Extend Win-Streak to Six

OAKLAND CITY, Ind. - The 18th-ranked Indiana University Kokomo volleyball team took care of both Oakland City and Bryan College Saturday in straight-sets, extending their win-streak to six.

THE RUNDOWN 
  • Trailing the Mighty Oaks 6-4 early in the opening set, IU Kokomo utilized a 7-0 run to lead 11-6 and force an Oakland City timeout. Additional runs of 8-0 and 4-0 allowed the Cougars to take the first set, 25-15.
  • IU Kokomo led 14-6 just past the midway point of set two, before a run from the Mighty Oaks cut the deficit to four at 17-13. The Cougs won the ensuing three points out of a timeout to re-establish a seven-point lead, eventually winning the set 25-20.
  • Leading by a point in the early stages of the third, the Cougars reeled off seven-consecutive points to double-up the Mighty Oaks at 16-8. Oakland City mustered just three more points, as IU Kokomo rolled to a 25-11 set win to complete the sweep.

THE RUNDOWN 
  • IU Kokomo came out of the gates on fire against the Lions of Bryan College, winning the first eight points and 17 of the first 20 en-route to a 25-9 first-set victory.
  • The second set featured more of the same dominant action from the Cougars, as they won by an identical score of 25-9.
  • Bryan College hung with IU Kokomo in the third, forcing a pair of Cougar timeouts. IU Kokomo responded to the pressure well, as they trailed 22-19 before winning six of the next seven points to win it 25-23. The Lexi Broyles-Allison Richman connection was working on the final two points, as they combined for a pair of points to close out the three-set victory.

LEADING THE CHARGE
  • Mia Niekamp led the Cougars in the second match of the day, flooring eight kills with a hitting percentage of .467. Lexi Broyles and Cali Cummings each finished with seven kills, while freshman Brynn Berndt added a career-high of six. Broyles made the most of her opportunities, going 7/8 for a hitting percentage of .875.
  • Allison Richman recorded 23 assists to go along with five digs, as Macy Chafin added 11 assists. Avery Littrell totaled a team-best 10 digs.
