Cougars Stay Hot, All 10 Players Score in Big Win Over IU Columbus

COLUMBUS, Ind. - The IU Kokomo women's basketball team evened its record at .500 with a third straight victory, dominating IU Columbus 89-41 on the road Tuesday night and improving to 3-2 in River States Conference action.

The 89 points mark a program-high in the Lisa Pflueger era and the most the team has scored in a game since November 18, 2020.

THE RUNDOWN 
  • IU Kokomo fell behind 4-2 early, but a quick 10-0 run gave the Cougars a commanding eight-point lead. Graduate student Anya Friend hit a three-pointer late in the quarter to push IU Kokomo ahead 17-9 after the first quarter.
  • Leading by eight with 6:36 remaining in the first half, the Cougars went on an 11-0 run over the next three minutes to extend their lead to 19. Hannah Hodgen capped the half with a three-pointer in the closing seconds, sending IU Kokomo into halftime with a 40-21 advantage.
  • The most dominant quarter of the game came out of halftime, as IU Kokomo outscored IU Columbus 24-3 in the third to put the game away. The Cougars shot 8 of 14 from the field and 7 of 9 at the free-throw line, while the Crimson Pride were limited to just 1 of 16 shooting, giving IU Kokomo a 40-point lead after three quarters.
  • The Cougars finished off an 89-41 victory over IU Columbus, improving their all-time record against the Crimson Pride to 3-0.

LEADING THE CHARGE
  • While all 10 players who saw action Tuesday night scored for the Cougars, six reached double figures. Mackenzie York led the way with 13 points, seven rebounds, six assists, and three steals. Fellow guard Cameryn Rector followed with 11 points and three assists. 
  • Four Cougars finished with 10 points, led by Mia Catey, who recorded a 10-point, 10-rebound double-double. Anya Friend added a season-high 10 points along with five rebounds.
  • Kelsi Langley contributed 10 points and seven rebounds, while Lexi DiOrio also added 10 points.
