THE RUNDOWN
- The Cougar offense started early, as they took the lead with a run in the first courtesy of a walk from Jedvier Garcia, a single from Brock Taulman, and a double steal with the pair on first and third.
- Alec Murphy got the start on the mound for IU Kokomo, sitting down the Knights lineup in the bottom half of the first, bringing the Cougar bats back up.
- After two quick outs in the top half of the inning, Luke Hanson stepped into the box and sent the first pitch he saw over the center field fence, his first home run in his collegiate career. This brought energy to the Cougar dugout, and sparked a two-out rally as Noah Wolf walked in the following at-bat, stole second base, and was driven in by a Jedvier Garcia double to right center. Garcia continued to create havoc as he took off for third on the next pitch, and was able to jog to the plate as the throw down went into the left field corner, making the score 4-0 in favor of IU Kokomo.
- Kentucky Christian scraped one across in the home half off of a solo home run, bringing their deficit to just three, before both offenses went quietly in the third.
- In the fourth, the Cougars quickly went two up, two down once again as Luke Hanson stepped back into the box, and took the first pitch for a ball. However, two pitches after that, he tattooed another baseball, as this one left the yard over the right field wall for his second home run in as many at-bats.
- The score remained 5-1 until the bottom of the fifth, as the Knights were able to scrape across a singular run.
- The Cougars were ready to respond in the top of the sixth, as Max French took a breaking ball to the right field seats for a two-run home run, giving IU Kokomo a 7-2 advantage.
- Kentucky Christian cut the deficit to 7-4 with runs in the sixth and seventh innings, but then the Cougar bats came back to life in the eighth.
- Corbin Napier was hit by a pitch to lead off, followed by walks from Peyton Lear and Max French to load the bases with no outs. Riley Sands followed suit, taking a free pass and collecting an RBI. Luke Hanson collected his third RBI of the day on a sac fly to center before Noah Wolf doubled to bring home French, making the score 10-4.
- Owen Norris took the ball from Asa Christie, who had four strikeouts through 1.1 innings, and slammed the door on the Knights in the eighth and the ninth to secure the first Cougar win of the year.
