MARIETTA, Ohio. - The IU Kokomo Men's Indoor Track and Field team finished third in this past weekend's River States Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships, held inside the Dyson Baudo Recreation Center on the campus of Marietta College. The third-place finish is the program's second-straight.
The Cougars finished the weekend with 110 points, 12 points back of second-place Shawnee State and 21 points clear of fourth-place IU East. Rio Grande won the team title in dominant fashion, totaling 313 points. Athletes score points for the team by finishing Top-8 in their events, while the top three finishers from each event are named All-Conference. Â
The IU Kokomo Weight Throwers' swept the podium Saturday, just as the women's team did. Gabe Wedmore took the top spot with a toss of 16.28 meters, while
Evan Gaylor and
Rhett Berryman followed in second and third to obtain All-Conference honors. Gaylor and Berryman turned in throws of 16.03 meters and 15.37 meters respectively.
Gaylor edged Wedmore for the final podium spot in Shot Put Friday, delivering a mark of 15.72 meters to be a two-time All-RSC honoree in 2025.
Distance runner
Steven Case enjoyed a strong meet, finishing second in the 600 meter run and setting a new school record in the 1000 meter run. Case crossed the line in the 600 meters with a time of 1:24.26, then narrowly missed a podium finish in the 1000 meter with a fourth-place finish and time of 2:36.56.
Three different IU Kokomo relay teams made waves on the weekend, led by the 4x400 meter relay team consisting of
Isaiah Belcher,
Aldan Zolman,
Brayden Voght, and
Rico Ortiz who finished second with a time of 3:32.08.
IU Kokomo's 4x800 relay team of
Isaiah Kanable,
Aden Pierce,
Caleb Vogl, and
Ayden Potts turned in the second-fastest time in program history, as they finished third in a time of 8:19.05.
Lastly, the Distance Medley Relay (DMR) foursome of
Isaiah Wittenberg, Case, Zolman, and Potts, set a new school record in the event. They finished fourth in a time of 10:59.21.
Upperclassman
Bryce Stateler delivered the second best 5000 meter time in program history, as he finished with a time of 15:47.36.

Evan Gaylor, and
Bryce Salgat will represent the Cougars at the NAIA Indoor Track and Field National Championships from February 27th – March 1st in Gainesville, Florida.
Bryce Stateler,
Cale Webb and
Jacob Bumgardner each hit an NAIA "B" standard in the Racewalk, but are unable to compete due to the limit on "B" standard qualifiers.
