Bumgardner, Gaylor, and Salgat Hit NAIA "B" Standards as Indoor Track & Field Competes Over Weekend

BOURBONNAIS, Ill. -  & MARION, Ind. - The Indiana University Kokomo Men's Indoor Track and Field team competed in a pair of meets once again over the weekend, first at Olivet Nazarene on Friday before competing at Indiana Wesleyan Saturday.

Walter Cramer Invitational - Olivet Nazarene
Freshman student-athlete Jacob Bumgardner competed in the 3,000 Meter Racewalk Friday at Olivet Nazarene, punching his ticket to the NAIA Indoor National Championships by hitting the "B" standard. Bumgardner won the event in a time of 16:11.05, good for fourth all-time in program history, 19th in the nation, and the best time from a freshman in school history.

Classmate Bryce Salgat finished just 0.50 seconds back of Bumgardner in second, as he also clinched his berth to the NAIA Indoor National Championships with a "B" standard time of 16:11.55. That time is good for 20th in the nation.

The 4x800 relay team of Aden Pierce, Ayden Potts, Isaiah Wittenberg, and Steven Case also made the trip to Bourbonnais, finishing second with a school record time of 8:18.35.

IWU Midwest Classic - Indiana Wesleyan
Kokomo's own Evan Gaylor clinched an appearance in Shot Put at the NAIA Indoor National Championships as well, as he delivered a "B" standard mark of 15.88 meters to finish third of 32 competitors. Gaylor has just recently returned from a season ending injury suffered last season.

After competing Friday in Illinois, Steven Case turned around and set a new school record in the 1k Saturday, as he finished 12th with a time of 2:36.70.

Both Trevon Hess and Jackson Money excelled in the Triple Jump, and as a result are now three and four all-time in program history. Hess finished third with a jump of 12.34 meters while Money came in fourth with a mark of 12.04 meters.

Bryce Stateler finished 17th in the 5k, crossing the line in a time of 16:17.65, good for third-best in program history.

The Cougars will return to action next weekend, as they will compete at the Indiana State Fairgounds Saturday for the Fairgrounds Invitational.
